Terrifying Hurricane Isaac
Atlantic hurricane has some different names in America. We often hear female names like Ana, Erika, Teressa, Kate, etc. to be the name of a hurricane happened in America. After 1979, both male and female name appeared in a list of hurricane names. One of them, which is terrifying as well as devastating is hurricane Isaac.
The name Isaac was firstly applied in 1979 to name a tropical cyclone which exists in Atlantic Ocean and gives destructive effect for some parts of America.
Hurricane Isaac in History
America has been dealt with this type of hurricane for four times up to this 2012. It happened in 1988, 2000, 2006, and recently in 2012. The first happening took form of a short live storm with tropical characteristics. This tropical storm happened for about 18 hours and was proved not to be destructive for the land.
In 2000, hurricane Isaac stayed still in open sea but it successfully drowned one person; as it brought strong wave capsizing boat in Long Island. Later in 2006, Isaac came again and passed to the east part of Bermuda. This became an extra-tropical one when reaching Newfoundland.
Lately, hurricane Isaac hit Louisiana and caused some damage on the northern part of the Gulf Coast, United States of America.
2012 Hurricane Isaac
At the end of August 2012, people living in Gulf Coast, as predicted, dealt with hurricane Isaac once more. Nine fatalities were found in three main parts of the United States: five in Louisiana, two in Florida and two others in Mississippi.
This slow moving tropical developed from tropical wave coming from Lesser Antilles which appeared on August 21st. On the same day, this wave got stronger and passed over Cuba and Hispaniola. In Hispaniola, it killed 34 persons prior to its visit to Mexico Gulf.
This Isaac got its hurricane strength on August 28; creating a landfall firstly in the morning. On the next day, it made the second and the last landfall in Louisiana, precisely in Port Fourchon. The effect of hurricane Isaac is said to be worse than the one made by hurricane Katrina.
Impact of Hurricane Isaac
Hurricane Isaac always brings destructive impacts; not only at the area of its landfall, but almost in all places which become the list of the ‘journey’. Besides some parts of United States, the latest Isaac left damaging footprints in Lesser Antilles, Puerto Rico and Greater Antilles as well; causing accidents and evacuation of about 30000 residents.
Hurricane Isaac also swept Haiti, Dominican Republic, and Cuba; bringing floods and storms which destroyed the affected areas
